For the last few years in Southern California, there is an absolute
epidemic of
homeless Pugs in serious need. We at Pug Nation Rescue have
been saving
Pugs for over 15 years and presently we have over 60 Pugs of
all ages atour
facility awaiting homes. Our adoption rates are fantastic,
however, pugs
continue to pour in from shelters, the streets, and unsuitable
homes faster
than we can get them out. Our great friends at Boon Animal Sanctuary in
Calgary have been amazing partners as starting in 2018, they have adopted 30 of our pugs, mostly seniors and special needs. As far as we know, rescue Pugs are a rarity in Canada and since we have an overabundance of pugs in need here, we are looking to team up with Boon to place Pugs in awaiting homes north of the border.

Our plan and process will be fairly simple; interested adopters can apply through our website. We will then arrange a virtual home check and once you are approved, you will be placed on a list to receive a pug. We want to respect your preferences, for example, if you want a puppy or a senior or a male or a female, a mix or pure bred pug, and we think in most cases it is likely that we have recently rescued a pug that will fit your parameters. We do hope, however, that you can remain somewhat flexible as this will be a fairly big operation and there will be a lot of moving parts to get the pugs North. Our plan is that once we have 10-15 approved applicants and make the proper matches for each person or family, we will load them up in our special van and transport them to the Calgary area from where you will pick up your pug. Once you have been approved we will send pictures and bios to try to make a good match; once we have assigned you a dog, we will electronically send you an adoption agreement, you would sign and pay the adoption fee in advance and your pug will arrive with a folder containing all health information and some starter food. All pugs will have received a basic medical exam, blood work, been neutered or spayed, microchipped, brought up-to -date on vaccines and even have received a dental if it was necessary. We are very transparent and precise about communicating any health issues we know about.

We are excited at the possibility of finding numerous pugs new homes and bringing rescue pugs to your area. We think it’s a great plan and welcome any questions or suggestions. Please see our website www.pugnationla.org and Facebook Page @PugNationRescueofLosAngeles or IG Page@pugnationla so you can get to know us. Please note that we usually have about 10-15 additional pugs in house that are not even on the website yet! Looking forward to hearing from you!
